Premier Inn opens First battery-powered hotel in the UK

The Gyle Premier Inn based in Edinburgh Park has recently installed a five-tonne battery which will be powered by the national grid during off-peak periods and provide energy to the hotel for several hours a day.

The 3m3 lithium ion battery was supplied and installed by E.ON and is expected to cut the hotel’s energy costs by no less than £20,000 a year, supplying energy to the venue for up to three hours a time once it’s been charged for two hours.

The chain’s parent company Whitbread as stated that this new development ties into its plans to halve its carbon emissions by 2025.
